Emergency services have stood down following a call out to a suspicious package at NZ’s Post centre at Auckland Airport.

The package was found at the New Zealand Post International Mail Centre on Laurence Stevens Drive and emergency services alerted at 9.25am on Thursday.

Fire and Emergency NZ had six fire trucks either at the scene or responding to it, and police were also called to the scene.

St John spokeswoman Melissa Peters said ambulance were there as a precaution.

At the time a NZ Post spokeswoman said all staff had been safely evacuated.

A police spokesperson said the New Zealand Defence Force had been called to examine the package and by midday it was no longer considered suspicious.

“Everyone is back in the building,” the spokesperson said.
