CHATHAM, Ill. (WRSP) — The Chatham Police Department is investigating a hoax device found Sunday evening on the Interurban Trail.
Officials got a tip from an anonymous caller who said there was a suspicious device on the pedestrian overpass.
Erring on the side of caution, the bomb squad along with other local agencies were called in.
It was later discovered the device was a hoax.
“Well at this time we don’t any reason to believe there’s anything else connected directly to this or any other dangers specifically related to this call,” said Deputy Chief with the Chatham Police Department Scott Tarter. “We always want to tell people, you know, if you see something suspicious, If you see it, you hear it, report it to us.”
Officials believe this is the first time they have dealt with a hoax device being found out in public in Chatham.
