LANCASTER — The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a “suspicious letter” containing a white powder substance that was delivered to a judge’s office on Thursday, according to authorities.
The Lancaster Fire Department responded to the Fairfield County Common Pleas Court just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday and removed items from Judge Richard Berens’ office in hazardous material bags.
Fire Capt. K.J. Watts said a court employee, who opened the letter, and a deputy, who secured the office, were assessed and released by medics. No one was injured.
The Fairfield County Emergency Management Agency was also called to the scene.
No other information was immediately available.
